Seronegative Arthritis

The condition called seronegative arthritis is a relatively unknown type of rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis, the collective name used to describe a condition that causes certain sets of symptoms such as pain in the joints, is a common disease experienced by different types of people. Out of all types of arthritis that have been identified and classified, this type is considered to be the most common.

A person that suffers from rheumatoid arthritis has factors of the disease present in the blood. As the disease progresses, production of the said factors increases, and thus, destroying the joints and muscles causing people severe pain. This factor however, can be absent in some people who display another classic symptoms of arthritis. Those people who display other symptoms of arthritis but otherwhise test negative to known symptoms are said to have seronegative arthritis.

Many people claim that people who suffer from seronegative arthritis suffer from mild pains. This claim however is untrue because those who are diagnosed to have this kind of condition suffer just as much as the people with normal rheumatoid arthritis do.

In fact, seronegative arthritis can prove to be problematic. This actually means that patients test negative when they are subjected to regular rheumatoid arthritis tests. This case can often lead to misdiagnosis which could potentially be dangerous to the patient. Doctors oftentimes refuse to diagnose a patient to be suffering from the said condition unless they are absolutely sure of it.

That’s not all. The problem with not diagnosing seronegative arthritis is the fact that rheumatoid arthritis generally needs to be treated early. Damage to the joints and bones can be stopped or at least slowed down using medicines if treated early. However, once significant damage has been done to the bones and joints, it could become permanent. As a result, someone who suffers from this form of rheumatoid arthritis must take medication and/or treatment at the soonest possible time. If however a doctor does not diagnose the disease properly, then the said patient may not receive treatment until much later to which significant damage could have been done already.

This is the reason why it is important for one to know the signs and symptoms of seronegative arthritis well. A person also has to take the time and effort to find out if he or she has a family history of arthritis. The said information will help doctors diagnose if the condition is existing in a person. In reality, the worst possible thing that could happen to a person suffering from this kind of arthritis is being unable to receive proper treatment for the said condition.
