Alternative Juvenile RA – Q&A

What are alternative treatments for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis?

What are alternative treatments for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis besides medication? I have a moderate case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and have been on pretty strong medications for it since I was 2 years old. I currently have a 3 1/2 month old and am breast feeding so I can not take any medication. I am in a lot of pain but do not want to sacrifice the breast feeding so I am looking for another option. Example: a special diet or anything???

Im assuming that you are now in remission considering that you say that you have been on meds since 2? I can relate, at 13 I came down with it as well and went on Gold Shots for about 4 years and I am now in “remission”. The bad thing is (coming from a med student) is if you are not in remission and not currently taking meds, more likely than not, damage will still occur in your joints. As far as I know (and I have been searching and researching!) there is no alternative EFFECTIVE treatments. For pain, if you wont take any anti-inflammatories (will pass into breast milk at very low levels), try warm compresses and stay away from stress(ha! I know, almost impossible). If you’ve done the OT and PT, continue with any therapy at home to keep mobility up. I know you were probably wishing for something else, but trust me when I say I’ve heard it all, from magnets, copper bracelets, fish name it! The only thing that has been scientifically proven so far is (believe it or not…is pregnancy!) medication and therapy. You can TRY to relieve some symptoms with the usual diets (no spicy/rich foods, not too much dairy and limited meats..high fruit n veggie intake and water)
I’ve also found that rubbing the painful area lightly (produces heat/friction) helps some with pain and pressing the soft spot between the thumb and index finger (pressure points)
Good luck

you need to first find out what is causing it, because you can be sure that this is not natural and there is a cause. Find a chiropractor in your area that does Total Body Modification, TBM. Through TBM techniques, it’s quite possible that they chiro can tell you what is causing the arthritis and what you can do to stop it.

I was just talking to a lady today that told me she cured her rheumatoid arthritis herself by cutting ALL dairy out of her diet – all milk, cheese, etc. She also cut back on protein a bit. She said she was amazed, but her arthritis went out of her hands and it hasn’t been back since. It’s worth a try to alter your diet like that and see if it helps, but definitely check into TBM. I’ve done it for my allergies and it works wonderfully for curing allergies – no joke! Cured of allergies to cats and dogs in 15 minutes!
