SHARC teems up with Arthritis Foundation – The Shrewsbury Lantern

SHREWSBURY, Mass – The Shrewsbury Health and Racquet Club, in conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation, is offering a new and improved exercise program to help control and reduce arthritis pain. Developed specifically for people with arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program is gentle on the joints and has been proven in research studies to reduce arthritis pain and improve ability to do more daily activities.

The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program will be offered starting April 26 at the Shrewsbury Health and Racquet Club.  Developed specifically for people with arthritis, this water exercise program has been documented to reduce arthritis pain and stiffness while keeping joints flexible and muscles strong.  Conducted in a heated pool, the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program provides gentle resistance to build muscle strength and increase overall stamina.

The program is taught by Arthritis Foundation-certified instructors, each of whom has completed in-depth training on arthritis and the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program.  During the ten weeks, participants will go through a series of gentle movements and activities while standing.  The ability to swim is not required for classes in shallow water and students wanting a greater challenge can use approved resistance equipment and/or participate in a deep water component of the program.

The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program will be offered from 9:30am to 10:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 26th- June 30th at the Shrewsbury Health and Racquet Club.  The course is taught by nationally certified Arthritis Foundation leaders, many of whom have arthritis themselves and want to help other people learn to gain control of their condition.
