The Best And Most Effective Gout Diet

Gout is a form of joint disorder where an individual undergoes debilitating pain in the joints, especially the joints of the foot and big toe. The formation of this condition is directly associated with the presence of excess uric acid in the bloodstream. As such, nutritionists always recommend a gout diet anchored with foods that are known to ward off the condition.

The moment the uric acid level rises above normal, crystals will form and accumulate in the base joints of your feet and big toes. These crystals, which are quite uncomfortable, are what causes the unbearable pain, especially when they get lodged deep inside the joints. The right course of action therefore would be to avoid uric acid causing food groups (read proteins) and encourage the consumption of lots of veggies and fruits.

High protein consumption can trigger the formation of this condition, be it from legumes, red meat, or chicken. This is because proteins contain some compounds identified as purines, which are broken down to form the acid. Most proteins contain this compound, but eggs and certain dairy products derived from skim milk have been identified to contain low quantities, hence can be used as sources of proteins in your special diet.

Another main preventive diet concern is taking beverages that elevate the body’s pH levels. Ensuring that the body’s pH system remains high is an effective strategy you can employ to avoid gout formation. Some types of juices and sodas have very low pH levels such that crystallization takes place easily. There are however alkaline drinks which will raise the pH levels so as to thwart the efforts of crystallization.

Nutritionists have often recommended water with a tinge of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice as an effective alkaline drink for people suffering from this condition. Other beverages that can control body alkalinity include carrot juice and green tea. The most highly recommended is black cherry juice, which contains an adequately high pH value.
